Dancing your cares away

Take your partners, Chiang Mai

Metinee Chaikuna

Pan Dance is a new dancing school founded by Chiang Mai business people who love dancing and want to spread the knowledge to other Chiang Mai people. Pannee Pokaratsiri and Martin Chappell, the two teachers, both graduated in UK.

Pannee strikes a Latin pose.

The dance instructors make for an elegant looking pair.

Anucha Wongpan, one of the founders, said that the school was started by people who love dancing and want to promote it in Chiang Mai as there was no place for Chiang Mai people to exercise and learn how to dance. She said that the teachers of the school actually had their own businesses but because they like dancing they were pleased to give their time to teach people how to dance.

Anucha also said, “Pannee and I found dancing schools and places for dancing in England so we thought that in Thailand there should be places like that. In England, you pay 3,000 baht per 45 minutes for dance tuition, which would be too expensive for Thai people. But we love dancing so we learned to dance over there and teach here for only 500 baht. It is another alternative activity for Chiang Mai people who want entertainment, knowledge, and exercise.”

Pannee Pokaratsiri and Martin Chappell perform a ballroom dancing demonstration.

The dancing teacher dances with the guests at the grand opening.

The dancing courses are open for everybody. There are two types: standard ballroom and Latin American. The standard ballroom consists of waltz, tango, foxtrot, quickstep, and Viennese Waltz, and the Latin American consists of Cuban Rumba, cha cha cha, jive, samba, and paso double.
