Aspiring cheerleaders learn how to cheer, chant, kick and jump

Last weekend, many of the northern region’s aspiring cheerleaders were taught how to cheer, chant, perform partner stunts, kick and jump, as the Thai Cheerleading Association (TCA), Seacon Development Co., Ltd, and Serm Suk Co., Ltd jointly organized a TCA Cheerleading Camp, a workshop to train cheerleaders, at the 700th Year Anniversary Sports Complex from July 26-27.

Participants register to participate in the TCA Cheerleading Camp.

Jarun Poopat, vice president of TCA, said this is first time the cheerleading camp has been held in Chiang Mai. “We wanted to provide basic cheerleading skills for students in Chiang Mai and the northern region,” he said.

During the training course, participants learned about such things as arm motion, cheers, chants, and partner stunts from Dr. Suebsai Boonweerabutre from the Thailand Gymnastics Association.

Cheerleader trainees also learned fun and exciting techniques from Sutheesak Pakdeetewa, a well known dancer, who showed them how to kick, jump and dance during a dance workshop.

Cheerleaders from many provinces in the northern region attended the camp.

Participants came from many schools in Chiang Mai and neighboring provinces, such as Lamphun, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Sukhotai and Nakhon Sawan.

This campaign is also meant to create relationships between cheerleaders, many of whom didn’t know each other even though they came from the same province or region. Through this camp they would get to know each other, share experiences and help each other.

(Right) TCA vice president Jarun Poopat presided over the opening ceremony on July 26 at the 700th Year Anniversary Sports Complex’s Stadium 3.

Over the past eight years, cheerleader competitions in Thailand have been growing fast. Cheerleading competitors come from schools and colleges, and would like to increase their basic cheerleading skills so that they may cheer with safety and up to international standards.
