Dining

The well known restaurant‚ Le Coq d’Or’ in Chiang Mai offers new light summer lunch menus, starting at only 390 baht ++ for a 4-course menu plus coffee or tea. So next time you feel like dining in a most elegant, yet relaxed, setting, take your business partners or family there. Are you pining for some homemade breakfast before hitting the town? Or maybe a light lunch? Stop in at Petri’s, a small neighborhood restaurant, opposite Kad Suan Kaew. Toast, homemade pita bread, juice, butter, jam, coffee as much as you like plus a big selection of breakfast items to choose from. Like Swedish potato pancakes with bacon or an omelet with cream stuffing of shrimp, ham, bacon or mushroom. All served for only 95 baht.

La Gondola Restaurant, located at the Riverside Garden of Rimping Condo (next to Nakornping Bridge), now features a Weekend Pasta Buffet at 189 baht (children 129 baht), every Saturday and Sunday from noon until 3 p.m. Phone 0 5323 5942 for reservations.

Sunday Brunch is back! By popular demand, the Amari Rincome Hotel has re-introduced the famous Sunday Brunch, which is now more deliciously tempting than ever before. So, forget about your diet for one day and spoil yourself with a cornucopia of special delights created by the executive chef from Ireland, Adrian O’Herlihy. Haus Munchen, the famous German restaurant closed recently, after 20 years of doing business in the Night Bazaar. The Haus Munchen theme will be added to the Riverbank House Restaurant, which is on the banks of the Ping River near Rattanakosin Bridge. It is temporarily closed for refurbishments that will include an air-conditioned section with riverside views. Chiangmai Mail will keep you informed when the new premises will open.

Education

Environmental education for free! Chiang Mai University’s Forest Restoration Research Unit is pleased to announce that its new education program can provide free training and extension services to schools and other community groups in forestry and other environmental issues. The Zonta International Chiangmai Club is organizing the “Dance with an Angel” fund-raising event on Friday, September 12 at the Imperial Mae Ping Hotel Ballroom. The life of Tarzan, a young boy abandoned in the wilds of Africa, has been set to music and dancing. The young actors of the Kad Suan Kaew Drama School present an original musical about the life of Tarzan and all the animals under his protection. Popular entertainer Bob Supagorn will star. Scheduled performances on Saturdays at 2.30 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sundays at 3.00 p.m. and 4.00 p.m. through August 31 at the Kad Theatre. Saturday jazz at the Amari Rincome Hotel - each Saturday at 6.30-10.00 p.m., La Gritta Restaurant at the Amari Rincome Hotel, Chiang Mai arranges a live jazz performance by Daeng Fantastic team of four. Wednesday, August 20th at 12.00 noon - the Ladies Lunch Bunch will be dining at ‘To Nobody’ which has relocated to Soi Tewan, just off the Super Highway. A land and house fair and auction, part of a joint project between Siam Commercial Bank Co., Ltd. (Public) and Legal Execution Department, Chiang Mai will be held three more times this year: August 23, September 6 and Oct 25 at Lotus Pang Suan Kaew Hotel. Confiscated properties will be auctioned and special interests in personal loans will be offered to bidders.
