The new ‘Chiang Mai Spa Society’ is looking
for members. Their aim is to make Chiang Mai the “Wellness Capital of
Asia”. The Spa society is supported by the Ministry of Public Health and
Chiang Mai Public Health office. To become a member your field and interest
should be from one of the following categories: health service (spas &
long stay lodgings); health products (herbal products) or medical service
(private hospitals). The Spa society would like to set up standards of spas
and to support tourism - regarding spas - in northern Thailand. For more

Childbirth Preparation Classes
- Especially for first time parents who are interested in the Bradley
method, Juanita Duong, Diane Smith and Lori Rowe work together to teach a
series of two 2-hour classes that will help prepare a couple for the birth
of a baby. After the birth, one of these nurses will also do a follow-up
visit to answer any newborn questions as well as assist with breast-feeding

Environmental education for free! Chiang Mai
University’s Forest Restoration Research Unit is pleased to announce that
its new education program can provide free training and extension services
to schools and other community groups in forestry and other environmental
issues. Discover biodiversity along a forest trail, learn how to grow trees
at our nurseries or join a tree planting day. Classroom events or field

Free Aerobic Classes - Chiang Mai Municipality is
teaching aerobic classes free of charge. Monday through Friday at the old

Entertainment
A three-day contemporary piano music festival
will be presented by the Music Department at Payap University in
honor of Payap’s 30th anniversary, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, September
26, 27, and 28, at the AUA auditorium, Rajadamnern Road. All concerts
are free and begin at 7:30 p.m. For more information call 053-248-037. Day
1, Friday, September 26: Performances by Payap graduates and faculty,
featuring music by Asian composers. Parinda Pong-Udom plays music by
Takemitsu, Chou Wen-Chung, herself, and the famous Chinese “Butterfly
Concerto”. David Wilson plays Stravinsky’s Sonata. Day 2, Saturday,
September 27: Students, featuring music by Latin-American composers, such as
Ginastera and Guastavino. Day 3, Sunday, September 28th: Bennett Lerner
plays ‘Music by my Friends’, a program of music by composers he knows,
or has known, personally, from Aaron Copland (American’s most famous
composer) to young Thai composer Narong Prangcharoen, Payap professor
Thorsten Wollmann, well-known American composers, and Donald Richie
(world-famous authority on Japanese film).

‘Beauty Suit’ performance & installation
art exhibition at Chiang Mai University Art Museum runs
through Friday September 26. An entertaining mix of mediums including video,
sculpture, performance and sound. The exhibition is a collaboration between
young Chiang Mai and international artists. It will showcase the work of

A major exhibition and yet another art highlight now
features at Gong Dee Studio on Soi 1 Nimmanhaemin Road. Frank
Roedel, a famous artist from Germany is showing some of his
well-known collages through September 22, daily from 10 a.m. – 7
p.m. This exhibition is being made possible by sponsors like the Embassy of
the Federal Republic of Germany, the honorary Consul of the Federal Rep. of
Germany in Chiang Mai, Schenker, Schering, the Checkpoint Charlie
Foundation, C.S.B. Cargo Service, Helaba Landesbank Hessen-Thueringen, and
the SV Sparkassen Versicherungen.
A land and house fair and auction,
part of a joint project between Siam Commercial Bank Co., Ltd. (Public) and
Legal Execution Department, Chiang Mai will be held once more this year: Oct
25 at Lotus Pang Suan Kaew Hotel. Confiscated properties will be
auctioned and special interests in personal loans will be offered to
bidders.
