Nature Walk with the Bearhugs Club at Kum Naresuan (formerly the Erawan Resort) – Maesa Valley. Join the Bearhugs Club for nature walks in a private sanctum. Are you pining for some homemade breakfast before hitting the town? Or maybe a light lunch? Stop in at Petri’s, a small neighborhood restaurant, opposite Kad Suan Kaew. Toast, homemade pita bread, juice, butter, jam, coffee as much as you like plus a big selection of breakfast items to choose from. Like Swedish potato pancakes with bacon or an omelet with cream stuffing of shrimp, ham, bacon or mushroom. All served for only 95 baht.

Childbirth Preparation Classes - Especially for first time parents who are interested in the Bradley method, Juanita Duong, Diane Smith and Lori Rowe work together to teach a series of two 2-hour classes that will help prepare a couple for the birth of their baby. After the birth, one of these nurses will also do a follow-up visit to answer any newborn questions as well as assist with breast-feeding if needed. Environmental education for free! Chiang Mai University’s Forest Restoration Research Unit is pleased to announce that its new education program can provide free training and extension services to schools and other community groups in forestry and other environmental issues. Free Aerobic Classes - Chiang Mai Municipality is teaching aerobic classes free of charge. Monday through Friday at the old municipality sports stadium (gym 2) between 5 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Thai Folk Puppets - Chiang Mai University’s Center for the Promotion of Arts and Culture is sponsoring a Thai folk puppet exhibition and performance at the Chiang Mai City Arts and Cultural Center (the building behind the Three Kings Monument). The exhibition will run until November 9, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The actual puppet show will be held on Saturday, November 8 at 6:00p.m. For more information call 053 217 793.

Baan Chulasai School of Music and the Arts is sponsoring a series of concerts featuring the music of Ajahn Xavier Pitijet Vichitporn and his magic flute. Titled “Sunday Matinee Music in the Garden”, the concerts take place every other Sunday at 3 p.m., beginning on November 2 and ending on December 28. Baan Chulasai is located at 259 Charoen Prated Road. The concerts include romantic music for flute (November 16), melodies for flute (November 30), Christmas tunes (December 14) and a New Year Celebration (December 28). Cinderella on Ice will be shown from November 9 until November 18, at the Ice Skating Hall of the 700 year Complex in Chiang Mai. Ice skating enthusiasts as well as children of any age will be able to see a most colorful show. Tickets are 300, 500, or 700, baht. Central Airport plaza Shopping Center, Chiang Mai in cooperation with Rak Sat Oversea Shop and Pet-Lovers Club will organize the 2nd Pet-Lovers Day Festival in the North at Lanna Hall 4th floor on November 8 & 9. Many activities will be presented such as “Clever Thai and Foreign Dog Contest”, “Thai and Persia Cat Contest” and “Beauty Bantam and Fish Contest”. All participants can participate in the Q&A Quiz Contest about pets and imitating pets’ sounds (junior and adult). The winner will be rewarded with many interesting prizes.

Remembrance Day, Tuesday November 11 - A remembrance service will be held at the Chiang Mai Foreign Cemetery, on Tuesday November 11 in memory of all those who gave their lives in war and the service of their country. A two minute silence will be observed at 11 a.m.; the silence will be preceded by a non-denominational service, commencing at about 10.45 a.m. After the service visitors are invited to the Chiengmai Gymkhana Club for refreshments. The Chiang Mai Foreign Cemetery is on the Chiang Mai – Lampoon Road, about 1 mile south of Nawarat Bridge, opposite the Electricity Company offices.

Tune-in to the English language radio program ‘Helping Hand’, broadcast daily from 7.30-9.00 pm. The program can be heard on Radio Thailand Chiang Mai FM 93.25 MHZ, and provides useful information to both Thai nationals and foreigners alike.

To the South

The Tourism Authority of Thailand will present the world premiere of “Katya and the Prince of Siam”, a two act ballet, at the Thailand Cultural Center in Bangkok on December 13, with additional performances on the 14, 15, and 16. The ballet will be performed by the Kremlin Ballet Theater. The ballet was inspired by the book, “Katya and the Price of Siam” by Narisa Chakrabongse, and it the love story of a Russian girl and Siamese prince. After Bangkok, the ballet will premiere in Moscow. The performance is being organized by International Cultural Promotions and further information should are listed with Thai Ticket Master.
