Protest at the Water Forum in Chiang Mai

Damn the dams! was the cry

Sonthong Chailangkha, representing the Northern Farmers Union Community protest group, presented a petition to Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Prapat Panyachatraksa, demanding that the minister stop constructing those damn dams.

A protest group representing the Northern Farmers Union Community under the Northern River Basin Organization Network gathered at the Imperial Mae Ping Hotel on November 21 to express their concerns over water management issues. The protest leader also presented the group’s petition to the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Prapat Panyachatraksa, who was attending the Water Forum.

Chiang Mai holds anti-drug affirmation and grand parade

14,000 take the oath - only 236,000 to go!

A crowd estimated to be not less than 14,000 people participated in the anti-drug grand parade at the 700 year anniversary sports complex. This support was part of the 60 day countdown drug project initiated by the government in honor of the His Majesty the King for His December 5 birthday.

Prem Middle School boys win soccer tournament

Last Saturday the CMAC Middle School boys and girls soccer tournaments were held at Prem.

In the girls’ tournament, all of the teams showed a high level of intensity and there was fierce competition throughout the morning games. In the final rounds of the tournament, NIS tied with GIS 1-1 and CMIS tied with GIS 1-1, showing just how evenly matched the girls’ teams were. CMIS emerged as the overall victor, followed by NIS in second, Prem in third and GIS in fourth place.

BHP Steel Limited renamed BlueScope Steel Limited

Following the necessary approvals and an overwhelmingly positive shareholder vote at the company’s Annual General Meeting last week, the company previously known as BHP Steel Limited has changed its name to BlueScope Steel Limited.

Chairman Graham Kraehe said that the adoption of the BlueScope Steel name marked the start of a new chapter in the history of the company.
