New expansion for AirAsia in Thailand

Bangkok - Penang for 500 baht one way!

AirAsia announced it will increase its network in June from Bangkok Don Muang International Airport. With the delivery of its fourth Boeing 737-300 for its Thai operations, AirAsia will add two new destinations.

The new destinations are Ubon Ratchathani in Thailand and Penang in Malaysia, both served daily from June 16. Flights to Macao will start later in early July. On a separate note, AirAsia Malaysian operations will also add a second daily flight from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur on July 1.

To celebrate the launch of these new destinations, AirAsia offers a special promotion valid on 20,000 seats. During the promotional period, fares (excluding taxes) to Ubon Ratchathani will be priced at 350 baht one way and to Penang at 500 baht.

The booking period is open from May 31 to June 15 for flights to Ubon Ratchathani and Penang. Travel must be completed between June 16 and October 30.

Following the period of promotional fares, AirAsia will offer seats to Ubon Ratchathani from 500 baht and to Penang from 900 baht.

The “Unseen Thailand” campaign, which was initiated last year, has been so successful in promoting tourism that the concept is being run for the second time, claims the local branch of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

Chalermsak Suranant, director of the TAT, Northern Office, Region 1, said that the campaign was a continuation of last year’s project. In this second phase, the TAT has chosen attractive tourist sites, to be the magnet for visitors.

They include adventure, cultural and life style attractions as well as temples and other holy places. Combined with the places of interest promoted last year, it is hoped that Unseen Thailand will cover all interests for all tourists in every province.

All the information is available in the new handbook “Unseen Thailand 2”. It includes sites in the Northern region such as the Pong Duad Hot Springs, Kaew Komol Cave National Park in Mae Hong Son, Chedi Kud, Wat Charmma Thewi in Lamphun and monks and novices riding horses to receive alms in Chiang Rai.

“Unseen Thailand 2” is available at the TAT offices, Seed book center branches and at Bangchak petrol stations.

The Chiang Mai Chamber of Commerce (CCC) is promoting an educational tour from Chiang Mai to Luang Prabang in northern Laos.

Montri Wongkasem, president of the Chiang Mai Chamber of Commerce’s (CCC) environment branch, and the president of the Luang Prabang Educational Tour Program, said the July 31 - August 2 trip is being organized including the air transfers and all hotels.

The CCC invites all people interested, and their families, to join in this worthwhile tour. However, there are only 40 seats available.

Participants will fly directly from Chiang Mai to Luang Prabang on Thai Airways International on July 31, departing at 10.40 a.m. On their arrival, they will be taken on a guided tour to Mai Suwannaphumaram Temple, Royal Palace Museum, Phou Si Mountain, and stay at the Ma No Luk Hotel or another hotel of the same standard if they have no luck in getting into the first one.

On the second day, they will spend leisure time on riverboats on a sightseeing trip to the Ting Cave and Ban Xang Hai. The Kuang Xi Waterfall and Ban Phanom of Tai Lue tribe are included in the schedule. In the evening, they will have a chance to meet with businessmen in Luang Prabang looking at future commercial and investment collaboration.

On the last day, participants will visit the Talad Pho Sri morning market and worship at Wat Wi Chunrach and Wat Chiang Thong. They will then return to Chiang Mai at 2 p.m.

The price of the tour is 12,900 baht per adult with double room and 10,700 baht for children under 12 years. A surcharge of 2,000 baht will be levied for a single room.

Thai Airways announces “Buy One Get One” promotional campaign

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited announced its promotional campaign “Buy One Get One” for Royal First Class and Royal Executive Class passengers departing from Bangkok. The campaign was reintroduced following last year’s success. THAI’s “Buy One Get One” special offer is available from now until August 31 for travel in Royal First Class on all routes, and on most international routes in Royal Executive Class, with travel originating from Bangkok only.

With the launch of the “Buy One Get One” campaign, THAI invites its customers to experience travel in Royal First Class or Royal Executive Class by purchasing one full fare round-trip ticket and receiving a second one free or receive a 50 percent discount for every two passengers. THAI’s “Buy One Get One” campaign is made available to customers with travel originating from Bangkok only. THAI extends an open invitation to all THAI passengers and prospective customers to experience premium class travel with THAI.

Designed for both business and leisure travelers, THAI’s “Buy One Get One” campaign is extremely flexible. Both passengers must travel together on the first sector, but have the freedom of traveling separately for the remainder of the itinerary. Members of THAI’s frequent flyer program, Royal Orchid Plus, may benefit from choosing the “Buy One Get One” campaign; both paid and free tickets are eligible for full mileage accrual.
