Events

4th of July, American Independence Day is celebrated at the American Consulate General Chiang Mai on Monday from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. US passport holders and their guests who have previously submitted their IDs are invited. Admission is 50 baht for adults and 20 baht for children.

Americans (carrying passports, copies of passports or drivers’ licenses) get through the ticket gate, but their non-American guests must be on the guest list. Entertainment: Dara Band kicks off the day at 4 p.m., 33rd Army Circle Band performs at 5 p.m., Elvisky sings at 6 p.m., the Chiang Mai Choral Society sings at 7 p.m. and a sing-a-long at 7.50 leads up to fireworks at 8 p.m. Throughout: food, drinks and free Bouncy Castle for the kids.

A Chinese Musical and Charity Concert will be held at Kad Theatre at Kad Suan Kheo to promote the 30th anniversary of Thai-Chinese relationship. Wednesday, July 6 at 7 p.m. Entrance fee 300 baht. Parts of the proceeds will be distributed to the Red Cross to help Tsunami victims in three southern provinces.

“Art and Amity II”, a watercolor art exhibition by Chiang Mai foreign and Thai residents can be viewed in Galerie Panisa, opposite the Toyota Showroom and Niyom Panich, three minutes from Chiang Mai International Airport, on Mahidol Road. Daily until July 11.

A Debussy Festival presents classical music by the French composer Claude Debussy and some of his contemporaries. Piano, vocal and chamber music performed by pianist Bennett Lerner and Friends. Opening concert on Friday, July 8, 7.30 p.m, Gong Dee Studio. Tickets 250 baht.

On Saturday, July 9, 2 p.m. Debussy’s opera Pelleas et Melisande will be shown in a TV recording at Vista Cinema No.5, Kad Suan Kaew. Tickets 100 baht. The Writers Club and Wine Bar on Rachadamnoen Road is showing work of young Thai artists until the end of May. Amongst others, artist Kom Suwanakerd, a graduate of Rachamongkon Technology Institute’s Fine Arts Department is exhibiting works entitled “Pace of Life”.
