The Writers Club and Wine Bar in conjunction with the Suvannabhumi art gallery is staging a six month season (until February 2006) of contemporary Burmese art, by leading artists, some of whose work can not be shown in Burma because of its political nature. A matchmaker service of sorts is fixing up families with pets who really need homes. The Lanna Dog Rescue, a very active group in Chiang Mai, is determined to improve the lives of abandoned and sick dogs that should have happy homes. Temples often act as shelters for unwanted dogs.
