Chiang Mai NGO’s protest US-Thai FTA negotiations

On January 9th, 2006,
almost 10,000 protestors gathered in front of the Sheraton Hotel, Chiang Mai,
where the US-Thai FTA negotiations were being held.
When the sun set on Saturday, January 14, the rooftop on
Hillside 4 was lit up and literally hundreds of festive people from all over
Chiang Mai found their way there. Over 120,000 baht worth of raffle prizes,
over 100,000 baht worth of live auctions items, and over 120,000 baht
sponsored goods for the silent auction demonstrated the goodwill and
dedication of Chiang Mai businesses when it comes to ‘giving back to the
underprivileged’.
Cricket took the scientific approach to fitness recently
when the Cricket Association of Thailand (CAT) hosted the Asian Cricket
Council’s (ACC’s) Sports Medicine and Fitness Course at Prem Center in
Chiang Mai.
Srisuphan Temple to be the world’s only silver temple
On January 10, Phra Kru Pitak Suttikun, 42, the Abbot of
Srisuphan Temple disclosed that chapel of the temple was to be restored. The
local community of Muen Sarn is amongst the finest sources of silverware and
lacquer ware in Chiang Mai. These crafts have been practiced here since the
reign of King Kawila,
Extravagant Gala evening at the historic site of Wiang Kum Kam
The historic site of Wiang Kum Kam was the extraordinary
venue for the recent Agavo Technologies Gala Dinner, organized by local
adventure specialist Track of the Tiger. Participants from all over Asia
were welcomed at the Grand Pagoda at the early evening, and walked the short
distance to the party site,
