FTA warning

FTA warning

Editor:
The article regarding the possibility of Thailand signing a so-called Free Trade Agreement with the United States is very disturbing to me. As we all know, nothing in life is free and any agreement with the U.S. comes with a lot of strings attached, usually to the detriment of the other country. As you realize already, the cost of AIDS drugs would increase which is something Americans with a higher income already have difficulty dealing with. As for the problems the farmers have, what good will it do to have food prices drop if the farmers then cannot afford to grow their crops. There may be a plus side to some things in this agreement but it is fraught with danger for the Thai people as most of the benefits will go to the U.S.
