The Chaophya Park Hotel Driving Range was the venue, kindly hosted by GM
Andrew J. Wood on a fine sunny June 7th Morning. Tony Malhotra, the
tournament media director, eloquently emceed the proceedings with a panel
that included Pattaya Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh, Itthipol Kunplome Chief
Advisor to the Mayor, and Khun Chaiwat Charoensuk, TAT Director Region 3.
Andrew Wood welcomed the press and all attending, before Peter Malhotra MD
of the Pattaya Mail and the Chiangmai Mail spoke about how in 15 years of
the media group’s operations, his family and staff have been engaged in the
development of the eastern and northern communities in Thailand through,
business, social and charitable involvements.
He explained the reasons for the inaugural Pattaya Mail Golf Classic
honoring Mike Franklin and Pattaya Mail’s commitment to the two major sports
on the Eastern Seaboard, Sailing with the Pattaya Mail PC Classic Royal
Cliff Beach Resort International Regatta, and now Golf with the Pattaya Mail
Mike Franklin Classic Charity Golf tournament. The representatives from
Pattaya City Hall and the TAT Region 3 confirmed their support for such
events and the promotion of sport and charitable activities on the Eastern
Seaboard.
Gerry Germenis GM of the Title sponsor European Security Concepts,
re-affirmed ESC’s support for charity events that were for the benefit of
children, although this was the first occasion that ESC had sponsored a golf
event. Steve Ryser, newly elected President of Rotary Club Eastern Seaboard,
expressed his gratitude that the Club had been invited to administer and
control the tournament funds and be part of the Organizing Committee. Tony
Malhotra, while talking about the beneficiaries, invited Cindy Burbridge
former Miss Thailand World and well known personality and to express her
thoughts about her visits to the Camillian Social Center and how funds
raised from this event would help. That left just two speakers, and in my
own remarks I emphasized the importance of giving as much credibility and
exposure to the valued sponsors, at whatever level they had agreed to
support the tournament and its objectives. Their support, with the
participation of the players, was foremost in achieving the best possible
financial result to benefit the charities.
The session closed with a review by Ingo Raeuber, Director of Operations of
Pinnacle Grand Jomtien Resort & Spa, of the events and activities due to
take place at the Awards Ceremony & Party at Pinnacle Grand Jomtien at
sunset after the tournament at Eastern Star on Friday 29th June.
