New library computer
research room at LIST
Lanna International School librarian Ms. Goong with
parents and teachers at the opening of their new computer research room.
Proud parents of the LIST PTO joined the school librarian Ms. Goong at the
opening of the new addition to the Lanna International School library. The
computer based center is intended to assist students in researching post
high school opportunities in education and careers. An online data base
linkup also allows students and teachers to access magazines, books,
journals, newspapers, and more for better academic research. This was partly
accomplished due to funding and support from the school’s Parent Teacher
Organization, along with the school’s volunteer Library Support Committee.
LIST provided additional funding and made new space available.
This is a follow up to last year’s library achievement of putting the entire
library collection into computer based records so that all can search, find,
check out and return materials far more easily and quickly. That project was
made possible by grant funding and professional technical assistance
received from the University of Texas (U.S.A.) School of Librarian Services.
Continuing library improvements have been possible because of the of the
many volunteers, parents, students and administration who have fundraised,
given much time and effort. Peter Train, Chair of the school’s PTO says,
“Ours is a warm hearted, family oriented school and this latest improvement
shows what we can achieve by all working together on behalf of our
US universities and
colleges to visit Chiangmai
Admission officers from 22 US universities and colleges will be in Chiangmai
on October 4th as part of the Linden Tour of Asia giving out information
about study in the USA. Hopefully they will be able to recruit some students
and offer some scholarships as well.
This College Fair will be held at Prem Tinsulanonda International School
from 2:30pm till 5:30pm and admission is free. There are free prizes for the
first 50 entrants. Other universities and private schools representing
Thailand and Australia will also be present. There will be food and snacks
available as well as seminars on” How to go to the USA” and “How to Finance
it.” If you are a student or parent of a student who wants to study in the
USA then this Fair is the place to have all your questions answered. All
students and parents from Chiangmai are welcome! For more information please

School hosts BBQ
Happy to be back for the new
school year at Lanna International.
Lanna International students
reunite at the new school year BBQ.
The Parent Teacher Organization of Lanna International
School hosted its beginning of the year BBQ event on September 7th. A large
crowd of hundreds of students, parents, teachers, staff and guests enjoyed
the festivities. A highlight of the event was the wide variety of
international foods and dishes in a tasting competition so popular little
was left for the judge to give awards for. The student council held games
and fundraised for school activities. Informal sports play was popular with
many of the students. Bingo games were avidly participated in with fun
prizes. An educational display for some of the latest computer technology
drew the attention of many. Karaoke and entertainment rounded off an
exciting evening of food, fun and fellowship.
LIST and its PTO pride itself on creating a warm, family oriented atmosphere
for the school community and certainly outdid itself with its first major
kickoff event. Volunteer Chair of the PTO, Peter Train, stated that he owed
much of the event’s success to the enthusiastic support of the parents and
families. He sends his thanks and appreciation to the many volunteers who
made it all happen. The PTO encourages all to attend its next major event
which is the popular bowling tournament in November.
