US students meet Karen refugees
A group of 21 students from University of Washington answered basic
questions about American society and values to a large group of mostly Karen
refugees at Mae La camp in Tak province. Students answered questions such
as, “Why does America accept refugees?” and “Do refugees have the same
opportunities as other people in America?” The Public Affairs and Refugee
and Migration Affairs sections of the Embassy arranged this outreach program
with former U.S. Ambassador Darryl Johnson who is leading the University of
Washington student study group on a three-week exploration seminar called,
“Northern Thailand: Tradition Meets the Modern World.”
