Bangkok airport link update
Two trains of an overall nine for the Bangkok to Suvarnabhumi Airport rail
link project will arrive at Laem Chabang port in the eastern province of
Chonburi mid-October, according to Mr. Bancha Kongnakorn, Acting Governor of
the State Railway of Thailand (SRT).
The first batch of eight carriages manufactured by Siemens is scheduled to
arrive on October 15.
On November 9, Transport Minister Thira Haocharoen and Deputy Transport
Minister Sansern Wongcha-um will hold a press conference on the Suvarnabhumi
airport rail link project.
When all nine trains arrive and construction of the airport rail link is
complete, a test run will be conducted.
According to Siemens, the four-car express trains will operate on the 25.7
kilometer railway from the Bangkok City Air Terminal in the Makkasan-Asoke
area to the new airport terminal.
The system is designed so that passengers can check-in at the City Air
Terminal and have their luggage conveniently transported in the baggage
compartment of the train without further handling, the source said. TNA
