Government’s cut-price rice sells out fast at City Hall
Chiang Mai citizens gathered recently at City Hall to take advantage of the
government’s allocation of 3,000 1 kilo bags of rice, to be sold at 120 baht per
bag.
Customers were issued with a queue card on production of their IDs, and their
hands were stamped to prevent repeat purchases over and above the three bags per
person allowed. In this manner, hoarding seems to have been prevented, however,
there was concern about the reselling of the bags at a higher price.
