Following installation of transvestite toilet facilities at
schools elsewhere in Thailand, several Chiang Mai educational facilities
have decided to follow the trend and introduce them as well.
of Sritana Commerce and Technology School’s specially installed
transvestite toilet facilities.
At the private Sritana Commerce and Technology School in Chiang Mai on
Huay Kaew Road, 2 sets of toilet facilities have been provided to
transvestite students, located in the same zone as the women’s toilets.
.The idea was initiated by Prapat Pothipan, the deputy manager of
student activities, and seems to have been much appreciated. The school
has a large number of students, and is known to be tolerant of varying
dress codes amongst its transvestite pupils. It would seem that since
the new facilities, referred to after a vote by students as the “Rainbow
Bathrooms” were set up, scholastic results improved. As a result,
another similar may be installed.
The school has received another benefit from its understanding attitude
in that an increased number of parents of transvestite children are
applying to have them educated at the school. New applications will be
considered for the beginning of the next term or educational year.
