Mae Hong Son inmates to be trained for 2012 Olympic Games

Khajohn Boonpath
A project initiated by Mae Hong Son’s Department of Correction and entitled ‘Rising Stars for the London Olympic Games’, aims to search out talented athletes from ‘behind bars’ and prepare them to represent Thailand at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Four disciplines have been chosen: Amateur Thai Boxing, Amateur International Boxing, Petanque (a form of Boules), and Sepak Takraw (Kick Volleyball). Prisoners will be trained to compete at both national and international level.
An appeal has been launched by the local prison commissioner for donations of essential training equipment such as punch bags, head guards, boules and takraw balls. More details can be obtained, or donations arranged, by calling 053 612 058 during office hours.
