Chiang Mai Athletic Conference holds annual Badminton tournament
CMM reporters
Chiang Mai Athletic Conference (CMAC) held their annual
Badminton tournaments on March 14. In previous years two divisions were
featured, one for students under 15 years of age and the other for
students between 15 and 20 years. For the 2009 tournament, CMAC trialed
four different divisions, in a test to determine interest amongst
elementary students. The 2 new divisions were U11 Mixed and Girls and
Boys U13, U16 and U20. As a result, CMAC found that there were more than
twice the number of competitors - over 90 students applied to take part!
The competition, a long day but a huge success, was run as a double
elimination tournament, thus guaranteeing every competitor at least 2
games. 174 matches were played on the four courts - from 9 a.m. through
to the 3 finals at 3.30 p.m. there was never a court free.
The standard of the players were very high, resulting in some very good
matches. Congratulation go to Christopher from Chiang Mai International
School, the U13 champion, Lucy from Prem International School, the U 13
Girls’ champion and Rico, also from Prem, the U 11 mixed champion.
On the same day, Nakornpayap International School hosted its own U16 and
U20 tournaments. Winners were Kai Mook from CMIS in U16 Girls, Chien
from NIS in U16 Boys, Klang from NIS in U20 Girls and Saint from NIS in
U20 Boys.
