Chiang Mai athletics team tops Chiang Rai Games medal count

The 38th Chiang Rai Games were officially opened last week, with the aim of finding Region 5’s top 5 athletes in each listed sport, who will go on to participate in the Trang Games in October this year. The opening ceremony was chaired by Chiang Rai’s governor, Sumet Saengnimnual
The Chiang Rai Games cover 29 sports - Track and Field, Swimming, Badminton, Snooker, Calisthenics, Tennis, Bicycling, Dancing, Golf, Judo, Pot Buddy, Handball, Amateur Thai Boxing, Soccer, Petanque, Rugby-football, Shooting, Amateur Boxing, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Tae Kwan Do, Woo Soo, Sepak Takraw, Muzzle Escape Loop, Volleyball, Siege, Soft Ball, and Rowing - and involve 15 competing teams from Chiang Mai, Phrae, Lampang, Lamphun, Tak, Phayao, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Phichit, Kamphaeng, Phet, Chiang Rai, Nan, Phetchabun, and Phitsanulok provinces.
The top 5 competing athletes in each sport will compete at the 38th National Games in Trang. After the first day of the competition, the Chiang Mai team had scored 15 gold medals, 11 silver medals and 9 bronze medals, making them the highest scoring team. Second was the Phitsanulok team, with 11 gold, 6 silver, and 5 bronze medals, with the Lampang team coming in third with 1 gold, 4 silver and 10 bronze medals.
