Local schools’ contest for prevention of dengue fever aims at public awareness

The permanent secretary for the Chiang Mai Municipality Ken Santitham recently presented awards and prizes to 12 Chiang Mai schools which were considered to have developed the most effective measures against the spread of dengue fever.
In his speech, Ken noted that the contest had been organised to raise the profile of the disease amongst the general public, as heavy rain and global warming are major factors in the spread of the mosquito-borne disease. 22 schools in total were involved; 11 of which were in the municipal area.

The Wedding of the Year

What has to have been the ‘Wedding of the Year’, took place Sunday 23 at the Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi when the Chiang Mai governor Amornphan Nimanant’s daughter Chinakharn married Sorayot Phanayanggoor in a traditional Buddhist ceremony.  The couple had been married in the Christian tradition in Bangkok earlier this month; their joy and love for each other was expressed poetically in the invitations to the traditional ceremony and the celebrations which followed, with the words, ‘ This day, I will marry you, my very best friend; the one I laugh with, live for, and will always love’.

Anointing ceremony for ground stabilisation and restoration
at Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep

At a press conference held on August 25, it was announced that an anointing and blessing ceremony would be held on September 5, to help ensure the success of the major work necessary to stabilise the ground beneath the famous temple and its pagoda at Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep.

The press releases gush on breathlessly on how this new car will revive the historic British brand’s Mulsanne nameplate, which it shares with the main straight of the Le Mans circuit that has played host to six Bentley wins.
