Charities

Care for Dogs urgently needs both Thai and Western volunteers for their new stall at the Sunday Walking Street Market, which will help to raise funds for the shelter’s ever-increasing needs. Volunteers will be selling Care for Dogs merchandise, collecting donations and spreading public awareness of Care for Dogs. Full shift hours are Sundays approx. 3.30 p.m. until 11 p.m. Half shifts 3.30p.m. till 7.30 p.m. and  7.30 p.m. till 11 p.m. These hours are still to be confirmed and may change. Exhibitions and concerts

AUA Auditorium on Rachadamnoen Road presents a Violin & Piano Duo Recital featuring Sittichai Pengcharoen, (violin) and Eri Nakagawa, (piano), on September 19 at 7 p.m. Programme includes music by Beethoven, Cesar Franc and H W Ernst. Tickets 300 and 200 baht for students  in advance at 081-682-8000. Please note, parking on the forecourt is limited and motorcycles are not allowed to park at the venue. 

Payap’s College of Music presents Jazz with Mom.2 on September 11 at 6.p.m at the Leviticus Auditorium, Faculty of Law building, Mae Kao campus. The concert will feature Koh Mr.Saxman & the Jazz Brothers, the Duriyasilp Jazz Big Band, Breakfast Wine, the Woranan Jazz Group, the Four Brothers Saxophone Quartet and the Bohemian Jazz Quartet Profile. Tickets 2,000/1,000/ 500 baht, students 200 baht.

The Gate Theatre’s next season will present Neil Simon’s famous play, ‘The Odd Couple’, directed by Stephan Turner, at the Studio Theatre on the 7th floor of Kad Suan Kaew on the 11th and 12th, 18th and 19th and 25th and 26th of September. Curtain up at 7 p.m; from 6 p.m. food and drink, catered by the Queen Victoria Pub, will be available in the theatre’s foyer.

The ‘Hoon Chang Fon’ traditional Lanna puppet duo, recently awarded the World Festival of Puppet Art’s special Award for Poetic Interpretation in Prague, have lost their pitch in the Sunday Walking Market as a result of taking time off to compete in the international festival. The now internationally famous duo has at present no way of earning a living. You can support them by hiring them at your next event or party. CMU Art Gallery: New exhibition from August 20, ‘Suitcases’, opened August 20. Artworks which represent emotions and thoughts on a journey. Gallery is located close to the Suthep Road entrance. Works by students and teachers. This is an interesting new gallery; profits from sales go to art supplies for needy students.

116 Gallery will host an exhibition of paper collage artwork by Cornelis Hoek entitled ‘Cornelages’, opening on September 5 at 6 p.m. and running until the 30th. Cornelis is multi-talented as a singer, voice and dramatic art coach, tapestry weaver and international tour manager for dance companies, and has been working with paper collages since his arrival in Chiang Mai 2 years ago.

Networking Evening: AA Insurance Brokers Co.Ltd and Networking One invite you to these events, held on the 1st Thursday of each month, from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. at the Shangri-.La Hotel. Chiang Mai University’s Language Institute is offering a new non-profit multi-skill volunteer teaching programme which includes a Non-Imm. ‘O’visa. Volunteers can be placed in schools, hospitals, etc, according to qualifications and experience. Tailor-made placements in any field; commitment of at least 4 hours per week.
