The Chiang Mai Restaurants’ Association will hold the 22nd Chiang Mai

Food Festival from October 9 – 15, at Central Airport Plaza’s Lan Muan Jai. There will be with a grand opening ceremony and interesting and fun activities, including a Lhin Ping welcoming ceremony as well as stage shows.

Critical Mass Chiang Mai Bicycle Ride - Everyone on a bike, unicycle, skateboard, or roller-blades is invited to join the ride, beginning at 8:30 p.m. at Thapae Gate on the last Friday of every month to celebrate cycling and assert cyclists’ right to the road.  Short ride around Chiang Mai with drinks to follow. Maejo University, Chiang Mai will host the 22nd Biot Game competition from October 17-21 as a part of its sports project on biotechnology aimed at Thailand’s university students. The event will be held at the Biot club, Biology Department, Faculty of Science, Maejo University, with the aim of encouraging sports for health and good relationships between students. Sports covered will be basketball, valley ball,  football, chair ball, and a questions and answer contest on  biotechnology, plus  a modelling contests for Mr. & Miss Biot. About 18 universities nationwide are expected to send their Biot clubs to take part in the event. 

Charities and Special Events

Care for Dogs urgently needs both Thai and Western volunteers for their new stall at the Sunday Walking Street Market, which will help to raise funds for the shelter’s ever-increasing needs. The ‘Hoon Chang Fon’ traditional Lanna puppet duo, recently awarded the World Festival of Puppet Art’s special Award for Poetic Interpretation in Prague, have lost their pitch in the Sunday Walking Market as a result of taking time off to compete in the international festival. ‘Simply Suites’, a classical concert featuring harpist Judi Utley and flautist Annette George, with guest flautists  Jonathan McKeown and Susan Offner, will be presented by Payap on October 10 at the Saisuree Chutikul Music Hall ay 7.30 p.m. Tickets 200 baht, 100 baht for students. Book Launch of ‘Songs of Memory, Traditional Music of the Golden Triangle’, by Victoria Vorreiter on Sunday, 1 November 2009 1- 5 pm at the Suriwongse Book Centre, 54, 54 / 1 Sridonchai Road, Haiya, Muang, Chiang Mai 50100. The launch will include a Photo Exhibit, ‘People with Hats – the Traditional Peoples of the Golden Triangle’. The exhibition will continue until November 15.

An Art Exhibition, ‘Moving in Mind’, by Kamol Tamseewan, will be presented from 2 - 29 October 2009 at CMU’s Art Centre, Nimmanhaeminda Road. Kamol is a talented young artist who made waves at ART Singapore last year. His exhibition is based on images of local life in his home village outside Chiang Mai, including a highlight of 6 large canvases and many abstract and contemporary artworks.

Chiang Mai University’s Language Institute is offering a new non-profit multi-skill volunteer teaching programme which includes a Non-Imm. ‘O’visa. Volunteers can be placed in schools, hospitals, etc, according to qualifications and experience. Tailor-made placements in any field; commitment of at least 4 hours per week.
