Charities and Special Events

Care for Dogs urgently needs both Thai and Western volunteers for their new stall at the Sunday Walking Street Market, which will help to raise funds for the shelter’s ever-increasing needs. Exhibitions and concerts

The ‘Hoon Chang Fon’ traditional Lanna puppet duo, recently awarded the World Festival of Puppet Art’s special Award for Poetic Interpretation in Prague, have lost their pitch in the Sunday Walking Market as a result of taking time off to compete in the international festival. The Suriwong Book Centre is pleased to host a book launch “Songs of Memory” on Sunday, 1 November from 1-5 pm, which will be complimented by a photo exhibit of Victoria’s work, “People with Hats,” from 1 – 15 November.  The opening launch party will be accompanied by tribal music and food.  All are welcome. 60 Days of Thailand    Photographic Exhibition at Central, Kad Suan Kaew.

An exhibition of approximately 100 colour photographs opened on October 28  on the lower ground floor of Central  Department store at Kad Suan Kaew. The collection of photographs, taken by a large number of Thai photographers, will run until November 11. Admission is free and it is on show during Central’s normal opening hours .

The collection of photographs will be heading for Germany after the showing in Chiang Mai. The collection comprises images taken throughout Thailand during recent months. They range from wild life to famous buildings, from novice monks to landscapes. There are vivid pictures of ceremonies and markets, of  young people and the elderly at work and at play. Temples and other buildings are shown in wonderful contrast to the Thai countryside and the coastline. Anyone interested in photography and, of course, Thailand will find the exhibition a must.

“The Splendour of Nature” exhibition, featuring the work of Ajarn  Charoon Boonsuan, will be held on Sunday, November 29, at 6.00 p.m. at  116 Art Gallery. Chulathat Kittibute, the national artist  in applied  arts and contemporary architecture, will preside over the opening ceremony. More than latest 40 pieces of work will be exhibited and  one of his longest paintings (3m) will be on display to the general public for the first time. Chiang Mai University’s Language Institute is offering a new non-profit multi-skill volunteer teaching programme which includes a Non-Imm. ‘O’visa.
