North hit by heavy rains and flash floods

Heavy rains and flash floods in Mae Hong Son cut off Highway 108 on August 25, making it impassable at the 174 km marker near Ban Nong Haeng in Khun Yuam District, about 93 km from Mae Hong Son town. Highway crews and military personnel worked 13 hours to clear the landslide debris which covered the highway for 50 meters and was more than 100 centimeters deep. The busy highway is the main connection between Mae Hong Son and Chiang Mai. Story and photo by Khajohn Boonpath. Earlier in the month, days of heavy rains resulted in flooding across the North, with Lampang hit hard by flash floods. Chiang Mai saw flooded streets and high river levels.
