Animal lovers join in for World Animal Day

By Shana Kongmun

Chiang Mai residents honored their furry and feathered friends on World Animal Day this month at an event held at Chiang Mai University’s Art Center. Attended by various animal groups like Lanna Dog Rescue, Care for Dogs, Cat Sterlization, Lanna Bird and Nature Conservation Club, the National Elephant Institute and Elephant Nature Park, the list is just a few of the exhibitors at the event, all encouraging locals to help animals in need and respect animal rights.

Ana Gracey of Care for Dogs sang in her inimitable style from a dog cage, in a bid to educate people on not keeping their dogs in cages. Adults and children alike were encouraged to climb in the cage and have their photo taken.

The event was well attended with many people bringing their pets, a dog show from the Police as well as a dog training demonstration. Telescopes were set up for people to watch birds in the trees surrounding the Center and there were quite a few people who had a look. Educational materials were available from all the exhibitors and the families that attended perhaps left with a new persepective on our four legged friends.
