Nopniwat Krailerg

A briefing for local business people and government officials was held on September 3, 2012 when Surapon Kiatchaiyakorn, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Foreign Affairs for Parliament visited Chiang Mai and discussed the work of his sub-committee on Thai-Chinese-ASEAN relations and the upcoming ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

Chiang Mai Deputy Governor Ritthipong Techapun and representatives of the Governors of Lamphun, Lampang and Mae Hong Son attended the briefing on the preparation for the North to integrate into the AEC.

He added that the private private sector has an important role in pushing Thailand into the AEC effectively. Chiang Mai should be promoted as an aviation hub for the region with connecting land transport routes as well. He added that they should accelerate and promote tourism, agriculture, and education and to ensure that Thailand can step into the AEC and achieve the vision of ASEAN together with the 9 member nations.
