Miss Tourism World 2012

Miss Russia took first place with India and Lebanon 1st runner up and 2nd runner up respectively.

By Dirk Weeber Arayatumsopon
The Miss Tourism World Finals were held in Bangkok on December 16, 2012 and for the first time in the 25 year history of the event the event was held in Asia. 60 countries took part in the contest that was held at Siam Niramit and presided over by Mr. Phat Jungkankul and Mrs. Liza Zadler who kept their calm during what was often a problematic event that was not widely promoted as President of the Organizing Committee, Captain Kasit Habananada CEO of Orient Thai Airlines remarked. Captain Kasit felt that the government had not provided enough support in promoting the event.

1st runner up Miss India was nervous but articulate during the interview.
Lamphun resident and CEO of Thai Freeze Dry Co. Ltd and Vice-President of the Thai German International Friendship Association Daniel Foxman was one of the judges at the event.
There were 58 contestants from all the continents with 20 finalists chosen for this contest previously in a bikini contest. Thailand represented the local cultures of all the regions and all contestants took to the stage in national costume.
Thailand’s Sasima Surasapmani won Miss Tourism Press Choice award, while Spain took Best SwimSuit, Best National Costume went to Canada and Most Beautiful Smile to Puerto Rico’s Darlin Cruz.
Each continent was awarded a Miss Tourism Asia as well but the final saw the five main choices; Russia, Thailand, China, India, and Lebanon. The five finalists were given a question to answer and several of them struggled with the English, something that a representative of tourism should be proficient in, I believe.
However, 23 year old Tatiana Maksimova took the crown despite her need for a translator for the question and 22 year old Miss India Purva Rana was first runner up and 21 year old Miss Lebanon Nadine Abdel-Aziz was second runner up.
Next year’s event will be hosted by Equatorial Guinea in West Africa, whose Foreign Minister did a very good job of introducing his country for the next event.

Miss Canada, Best National Costume, Miss Spain Best Swimsuit and Miss Press Choice from Thailand.
