Rotary Clubs aid orphans in Grandma Cares program

The lucky children and their caretakers joined the Rotary Club Thin Thai Ngam for lunch before the presentation.

By Shana Kongmun
The Chiang Mai Rotary Club of Thin Thai Ngam held a scholarship presentation in partnership with the Grandma Cares program that helps children orphaned by HIV/AIDs to attend school. 31 children received scholarships through the program, many of them having been in the program for many years. Each child received 3,000 Baht from funds raised by the Rotary women. However one lucky child, an adorable boy of around 4 years old received a scholarship from the Nokia Rotary in Finland of 78,000 Baht. The grateful grandmother who is raising the boy, who lost both of his parents, was in tears as she thanked the Rotary for helping them.
The scholarship presentation was held at the Grandview Hotel on Thursday, December 20 with visiting Rotary members former Spanish diplomat and his twin brother Alberto and Tomas Moyano on hand to present money to the children they help to sponsor. In addition to the scholarhips, the children are sponsored by various individuals who help cover the costs of an education including books, uniforms, lunch money and more.
For those interested in sponsoring a child or learning more about the program more information can be found on their website. http://www. grandmacares.org/.
