Chris Smith (right), also known as Shambles Guru, spoke at the Chiang Mai International Rotary Club meeting held at The River Market on Thursday, October 17, 2013. Chris previously worked as the ICT Advisor for the English School Foundation (ESF) in HK where he was the Head of their teacher Professional Development Centre and then responsible for writing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the Foundations overall ICT Development Plan. Other work has included being the evaluator of a UNESCO project (SchoolNet) which involved schools from eight ASEAN countries and numerous workshops and conferences across the region.


The Chiang Mai Expats Club held their monthly meeting at Le Meridien Hotel Chiang Mai on Saturday, October 26, 2013. The guest speaker this month was Ms. Waraporn Brand-Srinaka Senior Specialist Global Payment Services Department at Bangkok Bank where she spoke on expat banking in Chiang Mai. Dr. Nirund Jivasantikarn, President at Yonok Foundation and American-Thai Foundation arrived the United States and visited Lewis & Clark University and Reed University, small universities with a reputation for great selection of quality graduates to teach in schools in Thailand. Especially at Reed University that had an alumni who is creator of the Apple, computer is widely used in the world. After this, Dr. Nirand was scheduled to visit more than a ten University in the United States before return to Lampang in November.


Rider’s Corner Restaurant hosted a wild and wacky Rocky Horror Picture Show night on Sunday, October 27, 2013. The evening, which was organized by Rocky Horror lovers Nicole Rosetti le Strange, Chris Backe, and David Broadfoot, saw locals dressed up as characters from the iconic movie including Magenta the maid and Columbia.
