Rotarians celebrate as new District Governor installed for 2014-15

The Rotary Club of Phayao hosted the District Training Assembly for the 2014- 2015 Rotary year culminating with the installation of Dr. Anusorn Kananusorn as District Governor for District 3360 Rotary International.
The District Training Assembly held at the University of Phayao on July 5-6 2014, saw over 500 incoming club officers from 64 clubs in District 3340 R.I. gather for the two-day seminar which aimed at helping club presidents build on the leadership skills, while incoming club leaders learn and refine their new roles for the year.

Rotarians were also introduced to Gary C.K. Huang, theRotary International President for 2014-15. Whose theme for the year is Light Up Rotary.
On the evening of July 6, Phayao Governor Chuchart Keelapaeng and his wife presided at the grand ceremomy to install Dr. Anusorn Kananusorn as the District Governor for the current Rotary year.
Amongst the Rotary dignitaries was Rotary International Director Nominee Saowalak Rattanavich who represented Past Rotary International President Bhichai Rattakul in performing the installation ceremony. She also thanked and congratulated outgoing DG Suparee Chatkunyarat for her invaluable sacrifices and outstanding achievements in the service of mankind during her year as governor of the northern region of Thailand.
As part of the weekend of celebration Rotarians also took part in fund raising activities such as the Rotary Micro Marathon 2014 whereby the proceeds would be used in their humanitarian projects.

U.S. Ambassador joins American Independence Day celebrations

The 238th anniversary of American Independence

U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand Kristie Kenney joined celebrations at the Shangri La Hotel Chiang Mai on July 1, 2014 where she spoke on the long ties binding the two countries. She told the gathered crowd of American and foreign residents, consuls and honorary consuls, government officials, private agencies and organizations and media that she was delighted to be in Chiang Mai for this special celebration. She added that the event was an important time to re-affirm the rapprochement and friendship of the two nations.

Governor Suriya Prasatbuntitya offers a congratulatory bouquet of flowers to U.S. Consul General Michael Heath on the occasion of the U.S. national day.

She was then followed by Chiang Mai Governor Suriya Prasatbuntitya who welcomed Ambassador Kenney and congratulated the U.S. on their national day. He noted that the 180 year history of Thailand – U.S. diplomatic relations had always been full of goodwill and resulted in cooperation in many areas including education, health, security, business, legislation science, and technology. He then added that Chiang Mai and the U.S. have had close relations for 60 years, since the establishment of the Consulate – General and recent close ties with the establishment of the Chiang Mai Creative City initiative which had paved the way to economy co-operation and wisdom innovation between the two countries.
After the speeches the guests gave a toast to H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej and to the United States of America.

The crowd gathered to toast H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the United States Independence Day, including French Honorary Consul Thomas Baude and Peruvian Honorary Consul M.L. Preeyapun Sridhavat.

River Market saw a big turnout for the Fourth of July party with all nationalities taking part in the celebrations.

Not just for Americans, American Independence Day celebrations at River Market drew people of all nationalities, including British residents, who enjoyed the huge buffet put on by Dave Anichowski with such American favorites as buffalo wings, burgers and pizza as well as Thai food and other River Market and The Dukes specialties and craft beer offered especially for the occasion.
The well –attended event saw kids of all ages take part in games run by the Rotary Chiang Mai International Club, along with live music and of course, fireworks displays after night fell. River Market and Dave have been hosting the 4th of July celebrations for a few years now and the event proves to be popular with Chiang Mai residents and visitors alike.

Le Crystal hosted the latest food and wine tasting from Horeca, offering not only the newest wines from the business but also pastas, meat and other food. Le Crystal also served up some of their delicious food for the food and beverage professionals that gathered to taste their wares.
The evening started with sparkling wine, Roland from Vulcano Hotel saying he preferred it to Prosecco. There were also delicious whites and reds, from both Spain and Italy, following the Mediterranean theme of the evening. The evening saw neighbor Andrew from Huan Soontaree dropped in as did General Manager of Holiday Inn Stella Jacob and her new Food & Beverage Director Supachai Rajbundit, as well as Sireeampan Boutique Resort’s General Manager Jitsak Lim-Pakornkul and 137 Pillars House General Manager Manfred Ilg and David of David’s Kitchen @ 909. The group enjoyed pasta from Cooking for Fun, tender lamb and fresh grilled beef as well as test tasted wines from the Horeca catalog.
