ASEAN School Games to begin in Chiang Mai July 22

Athletes from nine countries to take part

Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chaowanee Thongroj – Deputy Minister of Tourism and Sports and Dr.Kittipong Phothimoo – Director-General, Department of Physical Education and Chiang Mai Governor Pawin Chamniprasart announce the upcoming ASEAN School Games set to begin July 22 at the 700 Years Stadium.

The Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul announced that Chiang Mai will be hosting the upcoming 8th ASEAN Student Games 2016 from July 22 – 26, 2016 at the 700 Years Stadium.

He was joined by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chaowanee Thongroj – Deputy Minister of Tourism and Sports and Dr.Kittipong Phothimoo – Director-General, Department of Physical Education and Chiang Mai Governor Pawin Chamniprasart in announcing the upcoming games.

The schedule was announced and the Governor affirmed the city’s readiness to host the visiting athletes and their support staff. Over 4,000 people are expected to take part in the games with 1,600 student athletes and 3,000 coaches and support staff from nine countries joining in the event.

Top sports include sepak takraw, golf, tennis, table tennis, basketball, badminton, gymnastics, swimming, volleyball and football. The games begin July 22 and will run through the 26th at the 700 Years Stadium. The Governor invited the people of Chiang Mai to attend the games, cheer on the athletes and give them a warm welcome from their good friends in Chiang Mai.
